Description

Armed with two sewing machines, Hamilton Carhartt began producing overalls to help keep railroad workers safe and comfortable on the job. More than 100 years later, our goal remains the same: To create durable workwear for people facing the toughest jobs. These men's heavyweight bibs are made with our firm-hand duck, the strongest cotton canvas out there. They're built to hold their own through wind, light rain, and several seasons of the hardest work.

I work for a railroad. For years I heard how good carhartt fit and how good they felt. 5 years back I bought my first pairs of loose fit jeans. I've been sold every since, I've bought hats, jackets and more britches. My first pairs (5 y/o) are just now showing wear around the tops of the pocket openings.I used to wear Liberty bibs, but you had to be so careful or they'd shrink when washing. I tried dickies bibs, the fit was OK except for squatting down or sitting and standing up. They rode up my Crack and I'd be pulling my boxers out of my crack. These bibs have turned out to be like my other carhartts, real comfortable. I wear a 42 W in the jeans, they're a little loose. I'm 6'2 with long legs and a short torso. My gut is 48". I went with 34 L x 48 W. Plenty of room. Feels great. My only gripe is the hooks, they look cheap. Because of my short torso I had to work on the shoulder straps, I had to go past where the thinner strap meets the thicker material. I ended up using needle nose pliers to pull the buckle down to get the thicker material past it. Once I did that no problem. My 4 stars are for the cheaper hooks. One other note, duck is heavy and shrinks. My 1st wash I put in bleach and thick rock salt (food grade). I wash 2 cycles with cold water. The salt helps soften the heavy fabric and bleach takes out the heavy dye. The wash water turned brown. Then to the dryer on low heat and air dry.As to baggy legs comments. Bibs are supposed to be baggy. I'm 50, I'm about comfort.I really like these overalls. The material is very sturdy, quite stiff when you first get them, but they do soften up with a couple of washings. The are very comfortable as well, and pretty easy to get in and out of. The fly zipper opening is also pretty cavernous. Not that I need that necessarily, but it does make things a bit easier when nature calls. They fit quite well in the chest and gut area (I have a substantial spare tire) and the straps are easily adjustable. There's also lots of pockets, which is nice.I only have two small complaints. One, is that the legs feel like elephant legs. I have to get a larger size because of my larger belly, but the legs are SUPER WIDE for their entire length. I could fit a decent sized tree trunk in there. I have pretty normal, even muscular legs, and they are swimming around in there. I do like the freedom of movement, but it's a little too much. I don't know - maybe construction workers put on their work boots first and need to fit them through the legs? Second complaint - the connection tabs at the straps. They are brass, and do appear to be sturdy, but I can't help feeling like they could bend off pretty easily. Also, the edges are not rounded off at all - they are stamped out of flat metal, so sometimes fitting them into the slot and getting them off can be difficult. Not a huge deal, but worth mentioning.Overall (heh) I really like these and would definitely buy them again.I wear a 38 or 40 waist in jeans but I had to order these in 42 so I could use the buttons on the side (spare tire? Nah.). I also ordered them in 34 inseam rather than 32 but I'm glad I did. So I'd say a bit undersized. They are also very stiff when new. I ran them through the wash once and now I'm breaking them in. I figure it may take me a few months to get them just right, but it'll be worth it.I dress nice at work every day. Not suits, but just lacking the tie and coat. So when I get home I get rid of that costume and hop into more comfortable clothes like old army cammo pants or shorts during the summer. I love my BDUs, but wearing them all the time kinda makes you feel like a militia wanna be. (I'm not, I just like that you can spill anything on cammos and it doesn't look dirty. Further, the reinforced seat is genius.) I have a few other comfort pants, but I won't regress to sweatpants. I do a bit of mechanical work so I figured I'd try overalls. I'm glad I did. It's like being 8 years old again except not in blue and white striped Oshkosh B'gosh railroad overalls. The only reason I don't give them 5/5 stars is that I don't like the buckles. They seem cheap. I'm not super talented with a needle and thread but I can sew up a hole or tear. I was considering putting some aftermarket buckles. Nothing too flashy. No rhinestones or chrome. But something with the old style button and loop.Man, I love these Carhartt overalls. They are the gold standard for this type of workwear. I use them for projects around the house and garage, working on my Jeep and motorcycles, and snow shoveling in the winter.AS FOR SIZING!!! These are very different than your average pair of jeans. In regular jeans I'm either a 34 or 36 waist, with 30 length. For these overalls, I wear a 40x32!! Yeah, really! And it's not baggy in the waist at all. Especially if you wear jeans underneath. So, I'd recommend at LEAST 2 sizes bigger in the waist, plus one size bigger in length. Heck i'd probably be happy wearing a 42x32, especially with a hoodie underneath. Some sizes I wear in other brands--American eagle jeans- 34x30Levi jeans- 34x30Dockers pants- 36x30Fox Motocross pants- 36So again, buy bigger than normal here!!Sizing aside, you can't go wrong with these overalls. They are super thick and tough, almost like a canvas material. Plus they look awesome. They also have a zipper fly which is really convenient, along with buttons on the side to make it easier to slide them on. Plenty of pockets and a carpenters loop. Definitely a 5 star product! If my review helped you, consider rating it "helpful!" Have a great day!Longer in the legs than expected. Heavy denim - they practically stand up by themselves. Triple stitched main seams and riveted construction all good quality. Not totally delighted with the fiddly attachment between the bib and straps - initially looks flimsy, but probably robust enough; just not as handy as traditional button / wire loop. Knee pads have 'cleaning aperture' allowing access through a 2" gap in the lower seam. Might be possible to insert flexible knee-protection. Crawling backwards over gravel could go wrong, though! Fit-wise they're pretty well tailored; make sure you allow an extra size or two if you intend to wear over a thick work-shirt. Delivery was quick. I think I'm going to like these even more after a few washes!Excellent quality, well worth the money. Do take note of the size chart for this item, it is well worth taking a size larger than normal I’m so glad I did. Delivery was quicker than stated too. Legs are longer in length than you might expect but this is a very good thing as with wear they still cover your ankles no matter how much you have to bend your knees getting up and down. Material is very high quality and built to last. Again, well worth the money spent. These are without doubt the best pants ever! Built like they'll last a lifetime! Remember to measure your belly, I wear 38 waist... but ordered 50 for the belly! Best thing ever no more builders bum or too tight belt trying to prevent it! Quality is awesome!2020 UpdateThese dungers are still going strong! I have honestly never loved another article of clothing so much! Yes I look like an overgrown toddler but I don't care!!!I purchased this in June and because of the extremely warm weather and the fact that these overalls are really heavy duty, I didn't start wearing them for a few months. I have probably worn them 8-10 days around the farm and been really pleased with how comfortable and smart they are. However, last week I went to attach the shoulder strap and it came off! Amazon doesn't seem to have a return or complaint policy because I purchased in June. What do I do?Product arrived next day (Sunday)First time purchasing a Carhartt product.I reside in the UK, am 6ft 3" tall, 102Kg/16 stone and normally wear 36"Waist/36"Long leg, so ordered the 36W/36L in this product. The leg length was fine, but not so the waist size (too tight!) so returned these and ordered the 38"W/36"L which fitted my waist far better (but it remains to be seen how they fair after a wash - shrinkage?)So if you of similar build/measurements it may pay to order the next waist size up as I did.Love the colour and weight of the fabric
