First time in a long time I wish we weren't heading into warm weather. This cotton jacket is rugged, the zipper is strong the fit it just slightly larger than I expected but for a big guy its hard to find jackets that fit perfect in the arms. That said this is warm but light and with the sealed cuffs, perfect for slipping over my gloves when riding. I think the best part is the waist. This jacket doesn't try to be a trench coat, it covers just beyond the waist then stops, leaving you with 100 percent mobility from the waist down. Couple that great length with raised side panels and you have a jacket that basically fits like your favorite shirt. I mean there is nothing not great about this jacket. The color is ever so slightly faded or maybe a better term is muted so gives the appearance of being broken in. If you have ever owned any of the other Carhartt, lets call them "weather" jackets you would know they are so stiff when you first get them you can't wear them without feeling rigid and bound. They feel that way for darn near a year or longer. NOT here. This Sierra Jacket feels sturdy but also feels worn in at the same time. I mean the theme of this review should be obvious at this point. This Jacket is great. Great quality, great fit, great look. Please look closely at the the Zipper and note. It IS concealed behind seamed fabric edging but if you look very close along the front main zipper you should see a small thin area where the zipper is exposed between the edging. I like this little detail because there isn't a raised area down the front of the jacket. No overlapping edges creating thickness to conceal the zipper. This is perfect for me, it leaves the jacket flat across and down the front, perfect. No raised area, no stuck zippers. Looking at the pictures you can't really see the internal sleeve cuff. It's there, a stretchable internal cuff that seals your wrist from air leaving the external cuff loose around the arm. This is really a great jacket. I highly recommend it for EVERY Carhartt owner. You will not be disappointed.I love the jacket but wish I had ordered one size up, I normally wear a 2x but due to the insides of this jacket it was a bit smaller. It still fits, but I carry and it is a bit tight with the gun at the side. So if you carry get one size up.Pros:Very sturdy and Extremely warm. The hood is great and warm too, covers my entire head and face and keeps out the elements.Love the pockets, 3 outside and 2 inside. The two by your side are deep and I don't worry about objects falling out.The two inside are deep also and one has a velcro and the other a zipper. The top pocket is not so deep but has a zipper, would hold easy something the size of a cell phone. This is the tall and it comes down over my pants pockets which is what I wanted. The sleeves have storm cuffs that help keep the cold out, they are tight but not too tight.Cons:It is a bit more heavy than jackets I have worn in the past. But again due to the material and It seems a lot more durable than those other jackets so instead of buying a new jacket every two years I think I am going to get quite a few years out of this one.You lose a little of your peripherally vision with the hood on because it is big and covers your head and face.-(the plus side to this is that it does keep your face warmer and cuts down on the wind blowing in from the sides)Unable to get the color black for this size and had to settle for the brown color -(It does look okay in brown, I just prefer black)__________________________Been wearing it for over a week, been in the rain, a little snow, it's kept me warm and dry.And I didn't even zip it up.Was doing some yard work today, just blowing and raking leaves and I started sweating with this on -(not zipped up, open), this jacket really keeps you warm.Overall I really like the jacket so far.And Like I said in the beginning if you carry in a holster on the side, order one size larger.Update:I bought another one and got 1 size up and it is great, this jacket is going to last me forever.I originally decided to look for and eventually purchase this coat because my current one (now old one) while still in excellent condition, was always more of a style choice than anything born out of the ideal of functionality. This coat on the other hand, is bespoken to the concept of function at a level I would have scarcely imagined before becoming a Carhartt convert. I got the black Sherpa lined in a 2X Tall as per their sizing guide and it fits me perfectly. I'm able to move my arms fully (perfect example reaching for the seatbelt after you get in) and I dont feel restricted in any way while I'm wearing it like I've always been accustomed to with pretty much any heavier jacket/coat. The hood is quite large and roomy, insulated well for a hood, i usually wear a light hoodie underneath and they mesh so well together it feels like one piece of clothing. The pockets are abundant and roomy, two inside one zippered one velcro, one zippered outside chest pocket and two hand warmed pockets. Sleeves are quileted nylon I think and make taking it on and off very easy (this was my biggest hangup about the coat before I bought it, Im glad i went with this coat) and the little wind blocker things legit work. Its not been insanely cold here but its regularly in the 20 degrees fahrenheit range and this coat does its job well. For the price and the build quality if its function over form that youre after you've found it.Good coat for work environment. Fits short only to belt waist area. Leaves back exposed when bending over if you do not have shirt tucked inside pants. Cleans easy.Have had this model three times now and they all have fit perfect. Love these coats. Only reason I replace them because I wear them out from my job. They last me 3-4 yearsOrder your usual size. Not like with other clothing online where you'd usually order 1 size biggerProduct was exactly what I expected, I like my jackets a-little looser so I got it to fit bigger so if you are my size it will not be fitted there will be lots of room for a sweater under itIt's a great jacket, But unfortunately the zipper broke in a 32 days. I cant even return it or get it exchanged. It's useless to me now.
